J80 Worlds and SailingUpdates.com by Sail22

We had a blast yesterday on the water updating live from the J80 Worlds with our new version of Sailing Updates. We are very grateful to our wonderful sponsors for the J80 Worlds Sailing Updates: North Sails One Design, New England Ropes, Atlantic Yacht Rigging Services, Gorilla Rigging, Swift Morris and the great support of J-Boats and the J80 Worlds 2010.

Some of my favorite photos from the day are mixed in with some of Paul Todd’s from Outside Images. If you like what you see, make sure you check out the J80 Worlds 2010 Book. The full Sail22 J80 Worlds photo gallery can be found here.

J80 Worlds 2010

We are in Newport, RI through this week for theJ80 Worlds and it’s looking like an awesome event! Boats have been arriving and rigging in the parking lot at Sail Newport since last week. We’ve been busy learning about a new class for Sail22 and meeting great people.

We are looking forward to some great racing this week with over 60 boats registered. We’ll be debuting a brand new version of Sailing Updates as well this week, since we’ve teamed up with our favorite design team of Cary & Beth Seigler from GT3 Creative. If you ever need a website or a redesign, they are the best! Check out Sailing Updates for live regatta coverage of the J80 Worlds in a very simple and clear new way. We can’t wait to share it!

Sail22 has teamed up with Hall Spars & Rigging this week to service our clients in the best way possible. We have pre-made J80 rigging onsite and the ability to have anything you may need made during the event. We also are fully stocked with all of the J80 parts you may need to prepare or in case of breakdown. Look for the Sail22 Support Trailer at Sail Newport until Monday afternoon and then over at the Newport Yachting Center.

The J80 Class is also very lucky to have Paul Todd from Outside Images in town to shoot his exceptional photographs for a 120 page (13inx11in) book he is creating on the 2010 J80 Worlds. His 6-Metre Worlds book is beautiful and we’re sure this one will be too. This post has a sneak peak at a few of his photos:

Ryan DeVos Wins Melges 32 Nationals!

S22_3326Ryan DeVos and his team of Ed Baird, Dick DeVos, Mike Hill, Brian Janney, Marty Kullman, Scott Nixon and Drew Wierda on Volpe are the winners of the 2010 Melges 32 Nationals in Harbor Springs, Michigan.

Yesterday, teams spent the day checking out the ice cream shops of Harbor Springs and paddle boarding and swimming in the bay while they waited on shore for breeze. Today, PRO Bruce Golison was hopeful for one last race and brought the fleet out to the course, but the breeze did not fill. John Kilroy and the Samba Pa Ti team finished second overall and John Porter and the Full Throttle team ended in third place. Joe Woods and his team on Red finished fourth and Rod Jabin’s team Ramrod was fifth overall. Hopefully the Melges 32 class will return to Harbor Springs in the future. It was definitely a great venue!
