Sail22 named J/Boats Mobile Resource Team

Sail22 is excited to announce a new affiliation with J/Boats to further support all of our clients who own J/Boats. Sail22 has been supporting racing teams since 2007 with the Sail22 Support Trailer. The trailer is fully stocked with rigging, cordage from New England Ropes, Ronstan and Harken parts, custom designed parts, gear and accessories from Gill, as well as, tools for teams to use at regattas. Sail22 is also working with J/Boats Dealer, Stearns Boating, to support J/Boats owners and teams in the Midwest region for service needs, rigging and gear. As the J/Boats Mobile Resource Team, Ed and Becky Furry have over 25 years of combined racing on J Boats and will work with teams on a one-on-one basis for their needs.

Look for the Sail22 Support Trailer this winter season in Key West, Miami and Fort Lauderdale. The trailer will be stocked with all of your J/Boats needs to make your boat faster and provide service for any repairs or rigging. A video tour of the Sail22 Support Trailer will give you a even better idea of what you can expect to see at upcoming regattas. For the J/Fest Winter Series, the Sail22 J/Boats Mobile Resource Team will be located in Truman Annex and will be available starting the week before Quantum Key West Race Week 2012. Until Key West and after, the the trailer will be based at Shake-a-Leg Miami and will head to Fort Lauderdale for both of the Winter Series events, J/Fest Dead President’s Regatta and the J/Fest Super Lucky Regatta at the Bahia Mar. To cap off the end of the winter season, the J/Boats Mobile Resource Team will be in Charleston for Charleston Race Week 2012.

Feel free to contact Sail22 with any of your J/Boats Resource Team questions or needs at info@sail22.com or 574-889-0022. Sail22 is proud to be part of the J/Boats family and looks forward to meeting and working with more J/Boat sailors.

Melges 24 Worlds 2011 & Sailing Updates

DSC_0002We arrived in Corpus Christi, Texas for the 2011 Melges 24 Worlds on Monday night with the Sail22 Support Trailer and a Melges 24. We hit the ground running and have the Sail22 Support Trailer set up and fully stocked to help any team. In order to support teams even more, our relationship with New England Ropes has grown with great new cordage in stock from now on and their logo on the Sail22 Support Trailer as a sponsor! We’re ecstatic to have Ed’s cousin, Bill Becker joining us full time at Sail22 to add even more support for teams. He’s a great addition to Sail22!

In addition to being on site with the Sail22 Support Trailer, we will be providing live coverage of the mark roundings, finishes and blogging from the racing with Sailing Updates for the Melges 24 Worlds. If you haven’t had a chance to it out yet, head over to Sailing Updates and see what it’s all about. We’re pretty proud of it and think GT3 Creative has done an awesome job making our ideas work! We’ve had some great feedback from the past events and know there will be many followers of the teams here in Corpus from all over the World. Look for great coverage on Sailing Updates by Sail22 (smartphone friendly even!) and Becky’s photography starting soon!

SOAK Halyard Clip

SOAK sent us a sample of their new Halyard Clip and all we have to say at Sail22 is…what’s not to like about it!?!? A simple, practical solution to an always nagging problem for any boat that hatch flies their spinnaker. It’s $19.95 and available in our store. We’ll even ship it to you for free in the US! We ordered a batch, but they are going fast…so get your order in today. We’ll have some at Bacardi Cup next week, so feel free to stop by the Sail22 Support Trailer at Shake-a-Leg and check one out in person. Ed’s using it this weekend on the Etchells in San Diego, so he’ll be able to tell you all the details!

Sail22 Tips & Tricks: A Way to Lighten Your Boat

Sail22 Tip & Trick: Using aluminum ferrules is a great way to lighten up the purchase on vangs, backstays and other systems. You can buy ferrules or sometimes even just use sailmakers thimbles. The breaking strength on a ferrule is much higher than a wire block and they are less expensive and much lighter.

Sailmakers Thimble and 5mm Ferrule

As long as it isn’t a purchase system that is being using all of the time, a ferrule will not wear out your lines. Part of the reason for this is the larger circumference on the ferrule. If you need ideas where you can use one on your boat or you just want to buy them, let us know. You can save a lot of money while lightening things up. If you know how to splice you can save even more. But don’t try this if you aren’t comfortable with your splicing ability. Have Sail22 do it for you or contact your local rigger.
